How To Make Water Out Of Thin Air
Condensation with a Cold Surface
Place a clean metal container or sheet outside overnight. As the air cools, condensation forms on the cold surface and drips into the container. You can improve results by cooling the container further (for example, burying part of it in the ground so it stays cooler than the air).
Plastic Sheet Solar Still
Dig a shallow hole in the ground and place a clean container in the center. Stretch clear plastic sheeting over the top, securing the edges with rocks or soil, and place a small stone in the center so the sheet slopes downward above the container. As the sun heats the ground, moisture evaporates, condenses on the underside of the plastic, and drips into the container.
Fog or Dew Collectors
In areas with heavy dew or fog, hang a fine mesh (such as a nylon screen or shade cloth) stretched upright with a container at the bottom. Water droplets will collect on the mesh and run down into the container.
